A Bennett First :: The Houston Zoo

B & I just got back from a week long trip to Houston.  My mom & grandma were there to get some things organized at my childhood home and Husband was out of town on a guys trip, so I decided to go help where I could.  While we were there we met up with my sweet friend, Jess, and her daughter at the zoo for a day of fun!  Bennett had a blast, the Houston Zoo is the bomb.com! The weather was so perfect, pretty much every animal was out and about.  Our favorite animal was by far the giraffe.  They were all congregating around their food area, even the new baby giraffe, Gigi!  I spent a small fortune on three pieces of romaine lettuce so that Bennett could feed the big giraffe- I’m a sucker for things like that… but it was awesome!  We loved the Houston Zoo!  Here’s a short video of Baby Gigi:

Showering Baby Dietrich In Houston

This weekend was spent showering Baby Dietrich with lots of love and presents in my home town.  A little background that some may or may not know about me, I come from a very large family.  Specifically, my dad’s side of the family is huge!  He is one of seven children (all boys and one girl), each of his siblings are married and have multiple children, so the cousins are endless, and I’m so blessed to be a part of it!  A handful of my sweet aunt’s came together and devoted lots of time and energy into making this event for Baby D super special.  And special it was!  I couldn’t have asked for anything better!  My cousin (and bridesmaid from my wedding), Jennifer, put together the games, one of which was “Price is Right” themed- FUN FACT:: in college I was on the The Price is Right. Yes, they called my name.  Yes, I was the closest bidder and got on stage.  Yes, it was back in the day when Bob Barker was still the host.  No, I did not kiss him on the cheek (he was wearing more makeup than me and he was soooo oldddddddd…). No, I didn’t win a car. Yes, I spun the wheel.  Yes, it was heavy.  Anyway, the game was great, we had to price out baby swag and whoever got the closest to the actual price of everything won a bag of goodies!  Cute idea, right?!?  Thanks Jen! You’re awesome.

I really want to thank everyone (even those who couldn’t be there and were spoiling Baby D from afar) for making the shower so wonderful.  It’s a whole new experience when so many people show so much love to your baby who isn’t even born yet.  I cannot wait for each and every one of you to meet Baby in a few short weeks!

Please enjoy some of the pics from the shower, sorry some are a little blurry, they are from multiple cameras and phones…

And for the mommy-to-be’s who happen to be reading along with my journey and want to know where my dress is from, you can find it here.

Rest In Peace, Grandpa

Jesus said, “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. And you know the way to where I am going.”

For those who may not know, my grandpa passed away last week.  I’m so blessed to have had him in my life for 30 years.  He was married to my grandma for 58 years (almost 59), had 7 children (6 boys and 1 girl), had 22 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren!  He was a remarkable man who was loved by so many…

I hope you are enjoying a perfect round of golf in Heaven, Grandpa… Until we see each other again, I will miss you.

Hometown Love!

My weekend in Houston flew by WAY too fast.  Not sure if I even mentioned on here that I was going to Texas…but anyway….  I cannot believe how much I did and how many people I got to see in three days!  I saw my grandparents, four of my bridesmaids, my flower girl, and of course my parents.  And not just that! I got to eat at three of my top five favorite restaurants!  I’d say the weekend was a huge success.

Friday night was spent having a fabulous thai dinner at Kanomwan with my parents & grandparents.  It had been a while since I saw my grandparents on my dad’s side…. come to think of it, it was almost a year ago at my cousin’s wedding in San Diego.  You can see more about that trip here.  It was so good to catch up on all the Olson gossip… the best moment of the night was when my Grandpa leaned over to my mom and asked, “Did Bobbie just get engaged??”  He’s a bit forgetful these days… ;)DSCN1729

After dinner I got to meet up with my beautiful cousin’s Jennifer (left) and Kimberly (middle) for drinks and discussions about life and answers to questions like, “When did we get old?”.  I like conversations like this especially with my cousins because they will follow it up with something totally hilarious where all seriousness is thrown aside.  Love them!DSCN1733

Saturday was dedicated to sleeping, shopping, and my good friend, Heather’s, birthday.  We had dinner at a fabulous wine bar called Brix, where we all shared a huge basket of truffle parmesan fries.  And of course I got the grilled cheese sandwich which was served with NO CRUST! Duh, I love this place!

Then we moved to the spot next door (1252) which had signature martinis like sour patch adult &  tres leches. D-lish!

And of course I couldn’t visit Houston and not see my sweet Molly Madison!  She tried on my sunnies, I told her to strike a pose, and this was the result. Can she get any cuter?!?

Molly Madison

I love my life! And it’s entirely because of the people in it!

Ha ha ha, ok, maybe I don’t remember the exact time that our eyes met from across the room, but you have the general idea. Husband & I met many moons ago while he was finishing residency in Houston (where I’m from- what’s up H-town!). It was probably the sketchiest bar in Houston (at the moment) where everyone went to mix, mingle, drink, grind, do drugs (not us- other people), etc… just to give you a mental photo of how classy this place was.

Husband decided to take a night off from his extensive studying to unwind for his ::Birthday Weekend:: and thank goodness he did!  Or else he would have never had the pleasure of meeting me! Whew, close call. Anyway, I documented the first meeting only because it was love at first sight and Husband is a rare breed in Houston.  He is actually a rare breed anywhere, but especially at this sketchy bar in Houston.  Here’s the proof we were crazy about each other even on the first night we met:

Love him.

So here’s my number, so call me maybe.
