Bennett Wesley :: Two Years Old

Two years have come and gone with the blink of an eye.

At 10:15 this morning, my oldest little man turned two.  Today we woke up and had cinnamon rolls for breakfast.  We had our swim lesson, had our two year check up with the pediatrician (B weighs 27.25 pounds and is 38 inches tall), came home and swam in the pool, then ordered yummy pizza for dinner.  It has been a very normal day, yet I have been reminiscing on the last two years and how much my boy has grown.  He changes so much, but I’m really loving the stage we are in.  The stage where he gives unlimited kisses, always accepts a bear hug, squeezes into the smallest space next to me on the couch just to hold baby brother… it is really the sweetest time right now, I hope it continues to get better and better.

To the one who made me a mom… my precious Bennett,

You are such a special boy, everything about you is unique to you.  The way you can keep your excitement for anything under wraps, even though deep down I know you are totally stoked to see and do fun and adventurous things.  The way you can keep your cool around other kids who are losing their sh*t because they aren’t good at sharing, it’s admirable.  The way you can be so quiet in large groups, but get home and you can take the stage for an overly dramatic speech that includes changes in your tone and hand gestures.

Everyone that meets you tells me how well behaved you are, how chill you are, how laid back you are.  Although I know you have two sides, and that when you are home you are much more comfortable and can let loose, it still makes me so proud to hear other people admire your behavior in public.  You are so gentle, not destructive like most little boys (at least as of the last two years- this could change now that we are in the “terrible twos”).  You are much more interested in observing than doing.  But I think that this is more because you like to be 100% confident that you can do something before you do it.  You practice and practice until it’s perfect then all of sudden you are doing things with ease.

You are amazing to me in every way.  I adore everything about you.  You make my life so wonderful and I’m so proud to be your mommy.

Happy Birthday my oldest baby! I love you so much!

See Ya, 2016!

img_0274

Today is the final day of 2016, and what a year it has been.  So many highs and lows… The highs being announcing Baby Dietrich 2.0Bennett’s First Trip to CaliOur 5 Year Wedding Anniversary Trip here & here, and of course Bennett’s First Birthday!  The lows being selling my childhood home in Houston, celebrating my dad’s 60th birthday without him, and basically just living a whole year without his laughter or hugs.  2016 has seriously been the hardest year of my life so far, and I’m glad it’s over.

On a happier note, I’m feeling so optimistic about 2017!  My cousin/ sister from another mister/ best friend, Kelly, recently got engaged (another high moment from 2016!!) and will be getting married in Hawaii in July, Baby Dietrich 2.0 will be born eventually ;)… maybe they will be a New Years Day baby?!? (mommy’s wishful thinking), Bennett will be starting pre-school when he turns 2, I plan to run a 5k for Mother’s Day (#goals), and my other best friend, Torey, will be welcoming her first baby (a girl!!) in May!  What a wonderful year 2017 will be!

When you think of all the hard times- disagreements with loved ones, work stress, construction problems/ delays, etc… it’s all so petty.  I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else, with anyone else… going through life with my wonderful family and small group of close friends is exactly what makes me happy.  Life is hard, and the older I get, the more I realize how important the support from these relationships are to me.  In 2017, I hope to build on these relationships, become a rock for others like they have been for me, I want to be someone very reliable in any situation whether it’s just for a quick phone call or something more serious like a hospital visit.  What it all comes down to is…

I want to be more like my dad.  That’s my goal for 2017.

I hope you all have a wonderful New Years!

Christmas Day, 2016

img_0164

This little guy has enjoyed Christmas as an only child two years in a row.  I keep telling him that once his sibling arrives, Christmas will never be the same.  He is going to have to learn to share and be more patient ;).  Since this was his last year with this privilege, we tried to make it extra special for him.  I woke up before him and made his favorite breakfast- biscuits with honey drizzled on top, daddy spent time helping him open and assemble every gift from Santa, then we got ready for Grandma Dietrich’s!

At Grandma Dietrich’s we had the yummy french toast casserole with the sugar bacon, fresh made hot chocolate with the largest assortment of marshmallows… this preggo was in heaven!!  Bennett spent the whole day with his cousin, Luca, who just turned one on Friday.  Luca is just the sweetest baby in the world!  He always wants to love and hug on Bennett, B doesn’t quite get it… it’s pretty darn funny to watch.

Santa spoiled this boy!  Can’t wait to see what he’s like next year with all the changes that are about to happen in his life :) It’s gonna be fun!

Merry Christmas!

Halloween 2016

Halloween was SO much fun this year!  B was invited to 3 different events, and he did not disappoint in the costume department ;)

He is still learning the whole Trick or Treating/ taking one piece of candy and putting it in his bag thing… he was more interested in eating his raisins than the candy he was collecting (I’m sure Husband was proud!!).

Hope everyone had a safe and Happy Halloween! Enjoy the pics!

Mother’s Day 2016

Here’s our Mother’s Day in pictures.  We had brunch at the Don Cesar on St. Pete Beach which is always a treat, then in the evening  we went to Curtis Hixon Park to see the Florida Orchestra perform a Mother’s Day special (and they did not disappoint!).  It was wonderful!  Hope all you mama’s out there enjoyed your day!

Oh!  And check out my boy finally getting the hang of the walking thing in the video below!  He’s really taking off!

Well, the first birthday came and went.  It was a fun filled day of nothing but BROWN BEAR!! The pictures are pretty self explanatory, so I won’t go into details, but many thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate our little man!  He had a wonderful day because of you all!
