Well, the first birthday came and went.  It was a fun filled day of nothing but BROWN BEAR!! The pictures are pretty self explanatory, so I won’t go into details, but many thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate our little man!  He had a wonderful day because of you all!

Mommy & Bennett in Malibu

I’m about to post a ton of pics from our time in Malibu last weekend, so I thought I would share this sweet video of my first “walk” on the beach with my boy!

Thanks, Husband, for the cute video!

The pictures do not do this post ANY justice!

This past weekend we were in Denver, Colorado for a work meeting and when we had a free afternoon this was the one place I had to see!  Red Rocks Park is absolutely beautiful!  There’s really no other word to describe it.  Bennett loved hiking especially since he was strapped to daddy’s chest and could watch me the whole time.  The rocks are breathtaking.  Such a wonderful sight to see!  There is also a concert venue in the middle of the park!  I wish I could have seen a concert in the amphitheater, but that will have to wait until next time…

Denver, overall, was wonderful.  The cooler weather was such a nice break from the Florida heat.  We were lucky to have my mom there to watch the baby while we were in meetings and she even watched him almost every night so we could have some uninterrupted dinners ;).  Thanks mom!

Sorry I’ve been a little MIA lately, we have been super busy with our house being sold this week (!!), we travelled to Ohio for my cousin’s wedding 2 weeks ago, FOOTBALL IS BACK (yayyyy!!), work stuff… etc… anyway, I will try to get back into groove.  Have a great week!

Happy 35th Birthday, Husband!

This weekend was all about celebrating my sweet Husband for being born 35 years ago.  His parents came over in the early afternoon and we all went to the Florida Aquarium where Bennett got to enjoy daddy’s birthday as if it were his own ;).  We had the best time.  I was surprised at how interested Bennett was in all the sea creatures.  Husband held him in front of almost every exhibit and we watched him stare off into the tanks full of fish.  After the aquarium, we had an early dinner at Jackson’s Bistro then headed back to the house where we had the heavenly Peanut Butter and Chocolate cake from Wrights Deli.  Funny how now that we have a baby, all we think about is where we can go with him where he will be entertained and/or unheard if he gets loud.  This was the first birthday we have had with him, and it was no longer really about the actual birthday.  Well, it was, but just different.  It was about Husband having a wonderful day with his son.  Such a special first birthday with his baby.

For the first 30 minutes or so after we arrived, Bennett was fast asleep and missed some of the atrium exhibits.  Ha ha ha!  That doesn’t mean I wasn’t still trying to get his picture in front of the cool animals…

Dietrich Babymoon- Grand Cayman Islands

It’s about 5AM and of course I cannot sleep, so what better time to blog?!? Ha ha ha!  I know it has been about a month since we went on vacation to Cayman Island…  I just feel like time is slipping away from me, and there’s still so much to do before Baby D makes their appearance into the world.  Anyway, here are some of the photos from our beautiful trip :)

Husband & I were primarily on this trip for a business meeting, so we didn’t get to do a whole lot on our own… most of the time we were with people from the group, which was actually super fun!  We have made some really good friends in the group and it’s nice to know that we are able to see them twice a year at these meetings even though we all live in different parts of the country.  One of my really good friends is a wife of another Dr. in the group, and she is also pregnant!  So it was great having someone to relate with and get advice from {this will be her second baby}.

One of our nights was spent on a catamaran watching the beautiful sunset.  Husband sipped on the local brew and I had the virgin Cayman Lemonade ;).  Everyone had a great time!  I love sailing… maybe Baby D will take up sailing as an extra curricular activity and take his or her momma out every now and then :).

Another amazing shower for Baby D!  My sweet, sweet friend Kelly T. hosted and it was a wonderful success!  She had cute little blue mason jars with pink & white striped straws for beverages, twine & wooden clothespins for pictures of Husband & I when we were babies, and little cards for all the guests to write wishes for Baby D on!  We had so much fun with the ribbon game, where everyone guesses the size of the belly with ribbon and compares it to mine and my cousin Kelly H. (from Chicago) flew down for the occasion and brought a word scramble game that was super entertaining as well (even had to do a run-off since 2 people tied)!  I am beyond appreciative of all the love, support, and gifts for this little baby of mine.  I cannot thank everyone enough!

Just a few short weeks left before we all get to meet this sweet baby!

Concrete Jungle Weekend

When Husband informed me that he had never been to the Empire State Building I made it a point to check that off his bucket list.  It was a cold & dreary day, but I was determined.  And I’m so glad I got to be there with him to see the sights!  Even though it was not the best of weather circumstances, it was still a stunning panoramic view that everyone must see at least once in their lifetime.

My favorite part of this trip was, without a doubt, the National September 11 Memorial & Museum.  I am one of those people who will forever remember where I was and what I was doing the day of the 9/11 attacks on the United States.  I watch every single 9/11 documentary that I see on TV and cry uncontrollably for the victims and their families.  So of course going to the museum, I knew what was going to happen… I turned into a weeping puddle of mush.  The museum brings to life recollections of the day that you would never see on TV.  Vivid pictures of people taking their own lives, powerful final phone calls & voice messages left on answering machines of trapped victims calling their families to say “good-bye”, pictures of protestors begging for New York not to “rebuild on their family members grave”… heartbreaking.

Although the memories are very depressing, the museum also highlighted the true heroes of that horrific day.  Obviously they honored the brave men and women of the FDNY & NYPD, but they also told stories of unknown heroes.  One story in particular really stuck with me, there were a group of workers in the World Trade Center that worked with a gentleman who was wheelchair bound.  When they realized that they needed to evacuate they knew that they would need to carry this paralyzed man down the 80+ flights of stairs as a team.  Even though there was mad chaos all around them, it was hot and congested with people frantically trying to get out, and the man was becoming increasingly heavier the further down they got, they did not give up.  They saved that guy!

Anyway, if you are ever in the New York area, please go visit the memorial and museum.

^^ Even in the rain, the memorial pools are so beautiful. ^^

^^ Missing Posters :: After 9/11 family members and friends of those who had not returned home from the World Trade Center posted missing person fliers throughout the city.  When hope for survivors faded, the missing fliers became memorials. ^^

^^ “No day shall erase you from the memory of time.” -Virgil ^^

This wall was a compilation of work from several different local New York artists.  They were asked to paint a canvas of the color the sky was the day of the attacks.  When put all together it became one big work of art that took my breath away.  So beautiful.
