Body Butter Challenge :: Complete

IMG_1355

So…. the other day I decided to be Martha Stewart and make my own raw organic body butter.  I found this recipe from a mommy blogger I follow and she made it seem easy enough, so I decided to give it a try…  yeah… sure, it was easy, but what a mess! All that melted oil in a simmering pot, then pouring it into the glass jars… I’m pretty sure my house is going to smell of cocoa butter for months.

For those who are willing to take on this well-worth-it challenge:

1 jar of aloe vera butter

1 jar of mango butter

1 jar of coconut oil

1 jar of cocoa butter

1 jar of shea butter

Mix all ingredients in a big pot on low heat until melted, then pour into glass jars (I got mine from Target, 2 for $3).  Once mixture is in the glass jars, place them in the refrigerator to solidify.

I would strongly suggest only using the body butter at night when going to bed because it is very thick and greasy.  I have used it every night since I made it and it has been wonderful on my growing belly, thighs, and back.  It’s very moisturizing and makes my skin feel so soft and smooth.  Also, since your skin absorbs up to 80% of what you put on it, it’s healthy for pregnant women with little babies in them ;).

Good luck!

How We Told Our Parents :)

Anyone who knows me personally, knows that I would NEVER pass on a cocktail or glass of wine, especially in a social setting.  That being said, Husband & I knew that our parents would catch on real quick if I all of a sudden stopped ordering a glass of wine at family dinners, so this was the perfect announcement idea for us!  I ordered these super cute wine labels from Etsy, and this DIY project was so easy, even this non-crafty mommy-to-be couldn’t mess it up!

Here’s what you need:

1. a bottle of wine with an easy peel off label

2. your personalized wine label ordered from Etsy

3. some Goo Gone for any excess stickiness

Here’s what to do:

All you gotta do is peel off the label, wipe down with Goo Gone, and replace label with your exciting news!

Easy Peasy!

PS ::  I have a GREAT video of my mom when she learned we were preggo, I swore to her I wouldn’t send it to anyone, I probably even told her that I wouldn’t show anyone, BUT… it’s too good not to share.  So next time you run into me, ASK TO SEE IT!!!  You will not be disappointed!!

I have already taken six baths in my claw foot tub from Waterworks.  I’m obsessed with my sink which is custom.  Marble top is the Renaissance Console from Stone Forest with Palmer sink legs.  I used Carrara marble tiles (12×12 cut down to 12×3) on the floor in a herringbone pattern.  The tile company I used was Akdo Carrara Bella (honed).  And basic 3×6 white subway tiles on all walls.  All water fixtures are Rohl Perrin & Rowe. I really like the exposed piping & valves.  The custom shelving was done by a local carpenter.  I think that’s about it!  If you are curious about anything else just leave me a comment. :)

And just for giggles, here are the before pics:

a DIY project for the Dietrich’s…

Pretty much the entire weekend has been dedicated to household maintenance…  I take that back… pretty much this whole month has been dedicated to household maintenance and updating. Some have been fun, some have tested my patience with Husband, but overall the finished projects have really paid off!

For a couple weeks, I had been eyeing this vintage bar that I KNEW would look lovely in our home.  Now, let me give you a little history on bars in the Dietrich household… Husband in his younger years built a very nice bar with his bare hands. Very manly. It’s a great bar!  It really is!  And originally I did not think we would ever get rid of it because I figured it held some sentimental value to him.  I was wrong…

Originally the bar I had been eyeing was being sold for some OBSCENE amount of money that I would never even entertain spending.  The next time we saw it, it had been marked down substantially, but it still was not anywhere near a price we were comfortable with.  Welllllllllll… we checked it out again yesterday and guess what?!? 75% off!  Supposedly “rock bottom pricing”!

Husband knew I had loved it the moment I saw it (weeks ago) and I think with the great new price, he was pretty excited about it to!  **::Ummmm… What handmade bar with sentimental value?::** Anyway, we purchased the bar knowing that we would have to paint it and put some elbow grease into it, but the final product makes me smile :)
