Malibu, CA :: March 2016

This little family of mine!  We had so much fun being tourists in my old stomping grounds!  We seriously did a little bit of everything that Malibu has to offer… except surf… I’ve never been a big fan of the cold Pacific water.  We did go to Pepperdine, ate at all my favorite spots, went hiking, saw some of my greatest friends, and of course did some shopping ;).  It was a blast!

There are days when I reminisce about my time in Malibu.  It was such a special time in my life.  I was finally feeling what freedom was for the first time (my parents were 2000+ miles away!!).  I was meeting people who were totally different from me and grew up in a different world than me.  It was truly one of the best experiences, and I don’t think I would be who I am today if I hadn’t have been brave enough to leave the comfort of my home in Texas and go to college in California.  I never wanted to conform to the norm and get too comfortable knowing that my parents could just rescue me at the drop of a hat.

Someday, Bennett will be at the age where he is figuring out where he wants to go to college and as much as I selfishly will want him to be close to home, I hope that I am brave enough at that time to let him choose his own path and encourage him to fulfill his dreams.

Anyway, once again, Husband & I had a great time with our little buddy.  It’s crazy that his first college visit was to my school across the country when daddy’s school is only a 2 hour drive from our house in Florida :).

 I just know he is going to be a wave!!! ;) Enjoy the pics!

Mommy & Bennett in Malibu

I’m about to post a ton of pics from our time in Malibu last weekend, so I thought I would share this sweet video of my first “walk” on the beach with my boy!

Thanks, Husband, for the cute video!

Another family weekend at the beach…

We had another beautiful weekend at the beach last weekend!  This time Husband was able to join us, which always makes life so much better.  He took Bennett way into the ocean for a the first time ever, and Bennett did really good.  He didn’t like Daddy taking him off his shoulder, but didn’t mind the water all over his body and the waves crashing into him as long as he was held close to Daddy’s chest.  It was really a sweet moment.  When he got out he was ready to snuggle in his towel, and pretty worn out.  Overall, it was a nice intro to the ocean for this babe!

Bennett Wesley :: First Time Beachin’

IMG_2273

Well, Bennett & I decided that since daddy was going to a wedding in the Caymans for the weekend, we were going to make a trip to the beach!  To be completely honest, 2.5 hours in the car for three week old Bennett was a little ambitious for me.  The ride over wasn’t too bad. Only had to stop twice (once for a diaper change, the other for a feeding & diaper change), and once we got to the beach, we were happy little clams.  We had lots of family there to help with all our needs so that made things a lot easier.  Couldn’t have done it by myself…

The ride back on the other hand, that was a whole new ball game for me.  Bennett did not get a very good nights sleep Saturday night, so the screeching and wailing continued from the wee hours of the morning (2:30-3:00 AM) all the way until we got home the next day.  Yes, pretty much the entire car trip back was miserable for both of us… I’m not going to even try to sugar coat that one.  My thoughts are, having done that tiny first trip by myself, I can handle the crazy spells of this baby.  I stayed calm (because I can totally see how new parents can become so stressed out and frustrated when this kind of event takes place), pulled over to comfort him when I could, and once we got home he was happy and peaceful.  I think that all the driving got him frazzled and he started to resent his car seat.  Felt bad for my little dude.  But we did it!  And that first is done and over with!

But as you guys can see from the pictures, Bennett was not super impressed with the beach.  In fact, he slept on my shoulder the whole time we were out there!  I think he did enjoy the breeze and the sound of the waves hitting the shore though :).  I think the more we go back and the older he gets, the better it will be.  I cannot wait for the time we go and he actually puts his little toes in the sand and feels the water on his skin.  It’s going to be so much fun!

Hope everyone had a nice Memorial Day weekend with family & friends!

^^ Unfortunately, every picture I took at the beach that day turned out splotchy like this because I didn’t realize I got sunscreen on the lens :(… next time I’ll be more careful! ^^

another gorgeous weekend.

I cannot get over how amazing the beach was last weekend.  We finally had a nice little cold front come through Florida so the air was a crisp 62 degrees with a wind that chilled just the right amount for hoodies.  I didn’t take very many pictures, but you can clearly see that we had the beach to ourselves except for a few little creatures :)  Now would be the perfect time to visit Florida if you are planning a little getaway!!  Hope everyone’s having a great week!
