Beyond thankful…

…that this morning I got to wake up to the sweet face of one of my two gorgeous babies… that the other slept in long enough that I was able to warm up some Pumpkin Cinnamon Rolls… that my Husband tolerated my excessive need to start packing up all the fall decor just to litter the house with all things Christmas (the tree was delivered last night!!)… that my in laws graciously hosted Thanksgiving at their home today… and finally, I’m beyond thankful that we as a family have so much exciting stuff to look forward to in the upcoming year!

From my little family to yours… Happy Thanksgiving!

Sullivan’s Island, SC

Just wanted to hurry up and get this post up before things start getting crazy around here… well, crazier around here, as Hurricane Irma is approaching this weekend and we are still watching it closely to see what our plan is going to be.  As of right now we plan to stay put and ride it out, but as the satellite images are starting to shift the storm westward, I’m getting a little more anxious.

For Labor Day weekend, my sweet friend Courtney planned this awesome getaway for us and a couple other families to stay on Sullivan’s Island in South Carolina.  It was just a hop, skip, and a jump from Charleston, which we had the pleasure of being tourists in for a day.  We drove into the charming city, where we had brunch with my cousin Eddie and his sweet wife, Maryann, and their beautiful daughter, Emilia.  They were so hospitable showing us around their city, we cruised down King Street, saw the theater that was featured in The Notebook (I didn’t link it, but if you don’t know what that is, we shouldn’t be friends), walked around Waterfront Park and even did a horse and carriage tour!  It is such a gorgeous town!  I plan to visit again soon, even if it’s just for food!

Anyway, Sullivan’s Island was so quaint and just what I expected.  We stayed in a great house right on the beach, the babies got to pretty much roam free, ate at some super cute restaurants, and cruised around on golf carts.  The lighthouse was definitely one of the main highlights.  And all of the barges hauling goods up and down the coast… the boys were in heaven!

Hope you enjoy the pictures!

My gorgeous friend, Laura, captured the following picture of Bennett & I on the beach, and I’m obsessed.  He was being abnormally cuddly that morning which I just ate up… I really need to cherish these snuggly moments, because they will soon be few and far between…IMG_5648

Remington James :: Five Months Old

Yesterday, this guy turned five months old.  We were so busy I didn’t have time to write a post but I did get the pictures done! (Patting myself on the back)

Husband & I were just reading Bennett’s Five Month Old Post and I wish I would have read it before I wrote Remy’s four month post because their height at four months was exactly the same and Bennett weighed only one pound less.  When I was re-reading all the things that Bennett was doing at five months, I couldn’t help but compare it to what Remy is doing… Bennett was almost crawling at five months!  Remy really doesn’t even push up on his forearms yet.  He’s trying but not quite strong enough.  And Bennett was sitting up on his own with ease, where Remy is not.  Again, he is trying and he is almost there, but not quite.

My sweet and smiley Remy has lots of social outings (just like big bro did) just his is usually with his big bro and big bro’s friends ;).  He has started going to some of his own mom group outings, but we have been so busy traveling that it makes it tough to go to all of them.  Remy just flew on this tenth flight last week on our way home from Chicago, so he is traveling a lot more than Bennett was at this age.  He does so well on the planes!

A month from now Remington will be starting swim lessons at the same place that Bennett goes (hopefully at the same time too!).  He really loves the pool and floating around.  He usually can stay in the water with us for up to an hour without fussing at all!  And next week he will be going to music class with big bro- I’m pretty sure Bennett started music class a little later but since Remy doesn’t cost anything right now, I thought why not let him tag along, I just know he is going to LOVE it!

Right now, Remy loves to find his feet and put his toes in his mouth, he is drooling like crazy (just like Bennett was), he’s not as interested in real food yet… still very happy with his bottles, hates the car seat, completely sleeps through the night- even when we are traveling and he is in random cribs, loves lots of eye contact and is just the most angelic little… ugh… big!! baby ;)

We love you, Remington!  Keep being the precious gift from God that you are to me!

xoxo

I was reading the post from Bennett’s four month update, and as I was catching up, I could not believe all the similarities. Remy is rolling from front to back, back to front. He is giggling and coo-ing for anyone and everyone. He’s a great eater (at least 32 oz. a day!). By this age, Bennett was already playing in the Jolly Jumper, but I haven’t felt as confident putting Remy in it yet, only because he doesn’t hold his head up quite as well as Bennett did. But he is getting there. We have been doing much more yummy time and he is lifting his head much higher than before. Maybe within the next week or so he can try some of Bennett’s old activity toys.

According to his measurements from the pediatrician, he is 16.13 lbs and 28 inches long. The medical assistant couldn’t believe how long he was, she made me lay him out again so she could remeasure. Sure enough she was accurate. 28 inches! Gonna be a tall dude!  Remy has officially found his toes and loves to play with them.  I haven’t caught him with his foot in his mouth yet, but I’m sure it’s going to happen soon!

This little guy loves looking at himself in the mirror, can grab things that are in front of his face, he is starting to sit in a bumbo for small periods of time, and enjoys hugging a lovey.  He loves to kick his legs as hard as he can, enjoys listening to music, and finds the water features of the pool soothing enough to sleep to.  He is so precious!

In the middle of our little photoshoot this afternoon, we had an unexpected photo bomber!  Good thing he’s cute ;)

It’s been a long day for the Dietrich household, so I’m going to keep this short and sweet.

This baby boy is officially 10 months old today.  I’m slightly freaking out inside.  I’m starting to look at birthday party themes and I’m getting all kinds of emotional thinking about my baby getting older.  He is so full of life, my little adventurer, crawling or walking with a push walker anywhere and everywhere!  He is obsessed with books and reading.  Husband must read about 10 books to him every night- he loves it!  He eats everything, talks & hums constantly, always wants to be out and about around town ;)… he really enjoys his music classes and play groups- so many new friends!

He’s still a fussy mess, not easy by any means, but when this boy breaks out into a fit of giggles from bouncing on pillows, or daddy making a funny face at him, it’s the most precious sound… it makes all the challenges of being a new mom float away.

Bennett, I hope to keep the memories of you gripping onto me like a baby koala and nuzzling your little face into my neck, close to my heart forever.  I want to remember how desperately you crawl across the floor to reach my legs to pull yourself up and hold your arms out to be held.  I know these moments will not last long, and I’m savoring them for as long as you will let me.  I love you, my baby.

My heart is going to {literally} burst just looking at these pictures!!  This sweet boy of mine, this little wiggle monster, this ticklish, smiley flirt!  I can’t…

At our last 4 month check up, which actually took place a week after he turned 4 months due to us being out of town, we found out this stud was 28 inches long (100th percentile) and weighed 16 pounds.  Now, it’s been 3 weeks since that appointment, but that’s the latest update on his stats.  The Dr. couldn’t believe how long he was, she remeasured after the medical assistant measured him.  She confirmed what we all knew, he’s a healthy growing boy!  She informed me that he was ready for some cereal and pureed foods which MADE MY WHOLE WORLD!!  I left there on cloud nine!  We are still figuring out the quantities that this boy wants or needs, but not having that constant tether of breastfeeding has been a breath of fresh air.  I still pump for milk to put in his cereal, and he still feeds with me quite often, but it’s not nearly what it was… thank you, Jesus!  I’ll take it!

Bennett and I have joined a mommy/baby group where we meet up once or twice a week with a bunch of other moms and their babies for play dates.  So far, Bennett absolutely loves it!  He is so observant of what the other babies are doing.  He likes to show off his latest tricks (right now he’s rocking back and fourth on his hands and knees- almost crawling) and he loves to smile and play with all the toys.  And while the babies are all doing their own “thang”, the mommies get to talk about anything and everything that has been going on in our lives.  Most of us are new moms which makes it nice because we are going through very similar things.  The group is perfectly proportioned with babies that are only about 2-3 months older and younger than Bennett.  I actually look forward to this outing every week!

My boy is definitely starting the teething process.  The drool is never ending.  No teeth have cut through just yet, but it’s going to happen soon.  He is so interested in food.  Any time Husband & I are eating, B will stop whatever it is he is doing and stare at us.  Poor guy, he needs some teeth so he can try all the yummy food!  Ha ha ha!  Soon enough… for now he can eat his peas {hates them} and bananas {loves them}.

I’m really excited for B’s first Halloween later this month!  He’s going to have soooo much fun!  Can’t wait to share all the cute pics of him in his costumes!

I guess that’s it for this post… Bennett, you bring so much sunshine to our lives.  We love you beyond measure.

xx Mommy & Daddy
