Bennett Wesley :: 1 Year Old

DSC06118Last night, as Husband & I were going through the motions of our evening bedtime routine, I was overcome with emotions.  Husband was sitting with Bennett after his bath, reading him every book in his nursery.  I was putting clothes away and straightening up his room since we are having people over.  As I was walking out, Husband told me to say goodnight to Bennett because he was going to put him to bed.  I turned around in that moment and all I wanted was for my baby to stay awake a little longer with me as I finished getting things ready for his very first birthday party EVER.  I wanted to hold on to the moment of him not quite being a whole year old yet.  Bennett came down stairs for one last snack before bed and about an hour later he was so tired, I knew it was time.  As I carried him into his nursery with his face snuggled in my neck, I felt the urge to rock him in the rocking chair for a little while.  As we rocked I tried to memorize the way his twenty pound body feels in my arms and how sweet his hair smells right after a warm bath, and how soft his baby skin still is.  I laid him down in his crib for the last time as an eleven month old, and today he is a one year old.

It’s funny that this happened because just a few hours earlier, we were at a party at a friend’s house and some of the ladies were asking me if I was feeling sad about my baby turning one, and how I felt about leaving him for the first time last week to go on our anniversary trip, and my response was “I’m fine; I was fine.”.  At that moment, I was fine. On Thursday night, Husband & I were reminiscing about how a year ago on NFL draft night, we were sitting on the couch in the living room.  The Buc’s had the number one draft pick, I was timing my contractions, and Husband basically told me that we were not leaving for the hospital until the Buc’s made their pick.  I will forever remember that draft and always think about the next morning being the morning that changed my life forever. The day my baby was born.

May 1, 2015.  Such a wonderful date to be born on.  5-1-15.

I don’t know how to express my love in words for this precious blessing any more than I have over the past year on this blog.  As I read back on his monthly entries, I feel so repetitive with my words, to the point where I can barely read them without wondering why people even follow this thing.  But you know what I remind myself?… I remind myself that the description I have of him in my heart and mind will never change.  There are only so many synonyms for the word amazing.  He is and always will be my greatest accomplishment, and I’m so happy he will always know how his presence brings so much meaning to my life.

Bennett Wesley Dietrich,

You are, literally, my heart walking around outside of my body.  I cannot imagine my world without you in it.  You bring more joy to my life than I could ever wish for and it has only been one year (and 9 full months in the womb if we are being technical) since we first met.  I hope you always keep your never ending curiosity for anything and everything around you.  I hope you stay strong willed and never conform to the norm.  I hope you travel the world and love trying new foods just as much as you have in the last year!!  I hope your life is filled with unlimited happiness.  But most of all, I hope you remember that this mama of yours, loves you beyond your comprehension.

I love you, my son.  Happy 1st Birthday!

xo Mommy

Just wanted to share a few pictures (sorry they aren’t very clear since they are from my phone) of the nursery before Baby Dietrich gets here.  I call my theme “Bohemian Safari Chic” because I wanted something gender neutral (obviously), but still my style.  Husband did all of the hanging of art & curtains on the windows.  He is just so good at that! ;)  The only thing I do not have at this time is my wall mounted book shelf that was supposed to be here last week, but I have just been informed it will not be here until mid-May.  Booooooo!!!  I also do not have very many baby clothes yet… I figured I have a whole lifetime to buy lots of adorable outfits.  I imagine it will be like: one cute outfit for baby, one cute outfit for mommy ;).  Anyway, this is now my favorite room in the house.  I go in there all the time just to sit in the rocking chair and stare at all the things Baby D will soon be using on a regular basis.  It’s just the sweetest little room… now all we need is a Baby!  Hurry up little one, we are all waiting!

^^ Man oh man, how I love this Man!  ^^

Today marks our four year wedding anniversary, so I thought I would share a few “cutting the cake” photos with my readers.  What a special, sweet day that was…

I look back on the last four years and think to myself, wow!  Look at all that we have accomplished, all the people we have met, all the friends that we have made, all the places we have traveled, all the memories we will keep forever…  and it’s only been four years of marriage!  Of course there are lows (I would never say life is perfect), but when reflecting on our short amount of time as a married couple, I would have to say that we overcome those rough obstacles with grace.  And now, we have a little baby who will be arriving at any moment!  Expanding our family is probably the most exciting experience we will ever have and I cannot wait for this new chapter of life to start!

Husband, you make me the happiest woman in the whole world.  You work so hard and do everything possible to enhance our life together… and I just want you to know, I appreciate you in every way.  I am so proud to be your wife, the mother of your child, and your partner in life.  You are so wonderful!

I love you.  Happy Anniversary, Sweetheart!

Bangkok :: Part 3

Our final day in Bangkok was spent cruising the canals of the infamous Damnoen Saduak Floating Market.  We arrived right when they opened (as advised by the concierge at our hotel) and by the time we left a couple hours later the place was really starting to fill up.  It was a little more touristy than I had hoped, but the food definitely made up for all the haggling and repetitive products the locals were trying to sell.  There were men & women lined up in their little boats with food fryers, little skillets on small stove tops, and big pots and pans serving up all of the traditional Thai dishes and honestly, some of the things I tried here made my life complete.  Husband & I are obsessed with Thai food.  It was one of the main reasons we chose to visit the country!  There are some Sundays when we are at home that we dedicate to going to the local Thai Temple just for the homemade/ authentic meals.  Look up the Thai Temples where you are, and try it at least once, you will not be disappointed.  Anyway, back to the market, they really had a lot to offer such as Thai silks, plants, hand painted hair accessories, hand carved elephant & buddha sculptures, etc… we didn’t really have a ton of space for souvenirs but I did get a head scarf and some traditional Thai candies to bring back to the states with me.  We had a great time even though it was hotter than heck!  The locals continually offered their cheap beer which kept Husband happy and I got to shop…  It was a great day!

And finally, the moment you’ve all been waiting for… Ladyboys!

Now this was truly an experience to be had (although Husband seems to think differently)!  I loved it!  Some of these Ladyboys were much more beautiful than most people I know!  No joke, if you saw these performers in regular attire, walking down the street, there is no way that you would know that they were not female (well, some “technically” are female).  The show was a little cheesy, I will admit, but it was so mesmerizing.  You couldn’t take your eyes off of them!  It was quite a show! ;)
